The Karuna Fund

The first Monday night is "Karuna Fund Night".  On this night, some of us choose to forgo dinner, a cappuccino, (whatever), and donate to the Karuna Fund.  Some just donate! This “karuna” (compassion in Sanskrit) practice emulates the austerities of the Buddha, expresses our collective generosity and compassion and connects us deeply with the local Steamboat community. These funds go to benefit local organizations in need. These funds go to benefit local organizations such as:

REPS (Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide) - REPS is a largely volunteer coalition of community members invested in stopping suicide in the Yampa Valley and supporting those who have lost a loved one to suicide through education and awareness. Here

Hospice of Steamboat - Hospice is a not-for-profit healthcare organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life while respecting the patient and family's right to make decisions that affect their life and death.

United Way Holiday Market - The holiday market provides much needed clothing, food, and other items to people in the area identified by social services as in need around the Holiday season and onset of winter.  Many people donate toys and clothes for little children, but larger children and adults need things too.  This is where cash donations are so helpful - staff are able to purchase things for them to shop from as well.

Routt County Humane Society - The Routt County Humane Society is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals, providing humane education, promoting spaying and neutering as a means of decreasing the number of unwanted pets, and encouraging respect for the dignity and worth of all animals.
