Meditation Challenge 2026
A 'meditation challenge' is a great way to enhance your meditation practice or give it a kick start by joining others in our sangha who also want to make a deeper commitment to our meditation practice. Practicing with others with a shared commitment, even at a distance, is a powerful way to develop enthusiasm and consistency in your meditation practice.
Here’s the Challenge
For January, we will aim to practice for 20 minutes daily for five days or more each week. If you consistently practice for 20 minutes or longer regularly, add at least 10 minutes to your meditation sessions. We will send twice weekly emails with quotes or clips to inspire your practice.
One way to help you keep this commitment is to find a “meditation buddy.” Meditation buddies help keep each other accountable in a straightforward way, like texting towards the end of the day, “Yes, I kept my commitment,” or “No, I missed it.” You could choose to practice together or text after practicing, whatever you wish. If you need help finding a buddy, email Susan: membership@steamboatbuddhistcenter.org.
If you would like the support of meditating with a group, one of our sangha members, Sosanna McHugh, offers a zoom meeting Monday through Friday from 9:25-9:55 AM MT. This is an opportunity to practice with your sangha in silent meditation together. All are welcome to drop in. Here is the link.
This month is the perfect opportunity to try out our Exploring Meditation class offered by our own, Kelly Turnbull. Exploring Meditation meets on January 15th, the 3rd Thursday of the month, from 6-7 PM MT in an online format. This is an opportunity to practice meditation, ask questions, and share the practice with others on the path. It is free and all are welcome. Sign up here.
Tim will also be offering Taming the Mind & Finding Freedom, an introductory class on meditation, on January 21st from 6:30-7:30 PM MT in person at the Heart of Steamboat Methodist Church in the Labyrinth Room and online on Zoom. All are welcome to this community event!
To register yourself for the 2026 Meditation Challenge, please state your intentions by adding yourself to this Google Sheet. Your email there will be used for the twice-weekly emails.

Therefore, we can find true peace of mind through meditation. ”
